Record book, 1840-1841, 1846.

The volume records meetings of the Whig Party in Gill in 1840 at which delegates were chosen to the Worcester Convention and to the Bunker Hill Convention. It notes the failure of the Whigs to elect local candidates in 1840 but their rejoicing at the election of their presidential candidate, Gen. William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), in 1840 and his inauguration in March 1841. The volume also contains records of a court case, 1846, heard before Justice of the Peace Edward F. Henry against David Carpenter, postmaster in Greenfield, Mass., for violation of U.S. statutes concerning postmasters. The volume includes the replies of the defendant in this litigation. Also included is a form of marriage ceremony to be used by a justice of the peace.
